Burgundy Street pedestrian bridge, safety upgrade

The Department of Transport and Planning has delivered maintenance works and a pedestrian safety upgrade to the Burgundy Street pedestrian bridge in Heidelberg.

Project status:

Complete

We have completed routine maintenance works and installation of safety barriers on the Burgundy Street pedestrian bridge to improve safety for all pedestrians.

All traffic management has now been removed and Burgundy Street fully re-opened to all traffic.

Thank you for your patience while we have completed this important safety upgrade.

Background

The pedestrian bridge connects the Austin Hospital and the Mercy Hospital multi-level staff car park on the north side of Burgundy Street with the hospital precinct on the south side of Burgundy Street and caters for hundreds of pedestrians during the day and at night.

At peak weekday times, Burgundy Street carries an average of 1,400 vehicles per hour.
