Update

The Stawell-Warracknabeal bridge has been re-built and the road is open to traffic.

Crews spent more than four weeks dismantling the old bridge and constructing a new, stronger structure.

The works will ensure that the bridge is not subject to any weight limits in the future and will make journeys easier and safer for all road users, including truck drivers and machinery operators.

The Victorian Government’s investment in road maintenance delivers great economic benefits to the community and supports the creation of local jobs.

Victoria’s roads and freight routes are assessed on a regular basis. The annual road maintenance program is developed in response to these assessments to keep roads in good condition and includes consideration of the road and bridge’s strategic importance and determined by traffic volumes, strategic use, connectivity, and access.

Road and bridge maintenance supports jobs on the ground and throughout the region.

Completion of the Stawell-Warracknabeal bridgeworks is thanks to the Victorian Government’s Building Works economic stimulus program, which is investing $124 million to fix more roads and create or support around 300 regional Victorian jobs – including $10 million dedicated to fixing bridges and culverts across regional areas.
