Safer speeds for Ryans Road and Wattletree Road

We’re introducing a 60km/h speed limit on a 1.7km section of Ryans Road and Wattletree Road in Eltham North, between Kim Street and Laurel Hill Drive.

Published date:

16/11/2023

In the five years leading up to December 2022, there were 13 reported crashes on this section of Ryans Road and Wattletree Road, with seven of these crashes resulting in serious injuries.

The new 60km/h speed limit will help improve safety all road users. It will also provide consistency with the existing 60km/h speed limit on the northern part of Ryans Road and the southern part of Wattletree Road.

When to expect us

Our crews will be on-site over two nights from Thursday 23 November to the morning of Saturday 25 November between 9:30pm and 4:30am. They will be installing 60km/h speed limit signs and yellow ‘New limit’ signs to increase driver awareness of the new speed limit.

VMS boards will be in place one week prior to the new limit to alert drivers of upcoming works and changed traffic conditions.

What you can expect

  • The crew will be working progressively along Ryans Road and Wattletree Road to change the signs.
  • Flashing hazard lights will be used on vehicles at the worksite, to ensure the safety of crews.
  • During installation of the new signs, a reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place to keep crews safe.

Ryans Road intersection upgrades

This speed reduction is being delivered as part of the Ryans Road intersection upgrades project. As part of this project, we will be upgrading two intersections on Ryans Road in Eltham North at the intersection of Ryans Road and Wattletree Road, and Ryans Road, Wallowa Road and Allendale Road.

This speed reduction is being implemented prior to the delivery of the nearby Ryans Road and Wattletree Road intersection upgrade to ensure the road environment is safer for all road users.
