New safer speed on Hotham Street

Project update – December 2023

A safer 40km/h speed limit is in place from 7am to midnight on Hotham Street between Inkerman Street and Balaclava Road.

Electronic speed limit signs have been installed to remind drivers to slow down to 40km/h and look out for pedestrians.

Background

Pedestrians are completely exposed to the full force of a crash, making them some of the most vulnerable road users.

Through the Pedestrian and Safer Schools program, the Australian and Victorian Governments are investing $17.5 million to help Victorian pedestrians, bike riders and drivers share the roads more safely.
