Left turn restrictions to Ramsden Street
The Victorian Government is upgrading important rail infrastructure across the network, including the Hurstbridge and Mernda lines, to enable more train services, less crowding on peak trains and better public transport connections in Melbourne’s north-east.

As a result of these upgrades, more train services on the Hurstbridge and Mernda lines will travel through the Ramsden Street, Clifton Hill level crossing.
Changes to travel
- From 23 May 2023, vehicles travelling city bound on Hoddle Street will be restricted from turning left into Ramsden Street during the weekday morning peak from 7am to 9am. This will improve traffic flow on Hoddle Street and reduce congestion at the Ramsden Street level crossing.
- Pedestrian and bike rider access from Hoddle Street into Ramsden Street will be maintained once the left turn ban is in place.
- Trucks will be exempt from the restrictions.
What to expect
- Signs indicating the left turn restrictions will be installed from 9pm, 22 May 2023 at the Hoddle Street and Ramsden Street intersection.
- These works are expected to have minimal impact to nearby residents, road users and pedestrians.
Alternate route
Vehicles travelling city bound on Hoddle Street during weekdays 7am to 9am should access Ramsden Street via Roseneath Street.
