New tram to connect city's south-east

The Victorian Government is investing $3 million to plan for a new tram route between Caulfield and Rowville in Melbourne’s south-east.

Planning and design is under way on the link, which would provide an alternative transport option for thousands of people who live, work, study and shop in the area.

Stage one would join Caulfield station to Monash University’s Clayton campus, via Chadstone shopping centre, then to Rowville by way of Waverley Park.

The route aligns with an employment hub that houses the Australian Synchrotron, the Monash Medical Centre and the future Victorian Heart Hospital.

Design and planning work will examine alignments, park and ride options, stop locations, cost and travel time benefits.
