Boating will become safer, cheaper and easier for all Victorians thanks to a raft of changes, as part of an unprecedented boost to recreational boating, announced on 25 March 2019.
Better Boating Victoria has been tasked with overseeing a program of reforms. The priority is to scrap parking and launching fees at all public boat ramps in Victoria.
Led by new CEO Gary Gaffney, we’ve started talking to stakeholders and land managers, including local governments and committees of management, and we’re aiming to have all fees removed by the time people are putting their boats into the water in spring.
The Victorian Government is committed to returning every cent of marine licensing and boat registration fees to improving boating safety and facilities through a Better Boating fund.
The fund will collect money from boat registration and marine licensing fees and use it exclusively to improve boating facilities and safety.
Better Boating Victoria will oversee a review of the management of boating infrastructure arrangements over the next year.
This review will also look to reform the management of boating infrastructure, particularly at Port Phillip and Western Port.
A Better Boating stakeholder reference group is currently being set up. This group will include organisations and individuals from the boating community to further refine the scope of the Better Boating initiatives and how they are implemented.
