Traffic light maintenance
Find out who’s responsible for traffic signal maintenance and how to report a fault.
Overview
Department of Transport and Planning manages the maintenance of traffic signals on arterial roads, as well as most traffic signals on local roads, on behalf of the relevant local Council.
Even if Department of Transport and Planning is not responsible for the maintenance of the signals, staff at the Department of Transport and Planning Management Centre will log any fault reports and pass them on to the relevant signal maintenance contractor.
Traffic signal technicians will attend urgent faults at any time of the day or night. Hazardous faults may include:
- power failure
- lights on flashing yellow
- swung lanterns
- poles that have been hit by a vehicle.
