Agricultural vehicle access requirements

Follow this six-step guide to identify the differences between class O and class 1 agricultural vehicles and their unique operational requirements and mapped networks.


These steps are intended to assist you to understand:

  • if your agricultural vehicle, machinery, implement or combination is oversize but not overmass (class O);
  • if your agricultural vehicle, machinery, implement or combination is oversize and overmass (class 1);
  • what requirements you need to be aware of to operate your agricultural vehicle, machinery, implement or combination on Victoria’s road network for both vehicle classes; 
  • which of Victoria’s roads are approved, conditionally approved or restricted for travel when operating either of these two vehicle classes on their mapped network; and
  • what to do if your vehicle is in excess of the national or Victorian notices applying to oversize and/or overmass agricultural vehicles (the permit process).
