SmartBus
The Victorian Government is rolling out a network of SmartBus routes across Melbourne.
| | |
SmartBus is a premium bus service that has been designed to complement Melbourne's radial train and tram network, by providing 'cross-town' connections along major arterial roads to train stations, tram lines, schools, universities, hospitals, shopping centres and other activity centres.
SmartBus services run more often and for longer hours than most bus services. They are also more reliable because of a combination of road priority works and the use of smart technology.
Latest news
- The 2009-10 State Budget will spend $85.9 million to extend the existing Yellow SmartBus Route 901 service (Ringwood to Frankston) to Melbourne Airport via Blackburn, Greensborough, South Morang, Epping and Roxburgh Park. This delivers on the continued rollout SmartBus services announced as part of the Victorian Transport Plan.
- In preparation for the introduction of the Doncaster Area Rapid Transit System (DART), we're making changes to bus stops along Lonsdale Street. From 2011, DART will boost buses between Doncaster and the CBD to every 10 minutes during peak times.
- SmartBus Route 903 started service in April and is already the most popular bus route in Melbourne.
